1. Why Is My Case Visible on GYL?

Get Your Lawyers (“GYL”) is a legal-services facilitation platform owned and operated by its parent company, Richstream Sky Labs Private Limited, that helps clients manage court cases, track progress, and coordinate with advocates. Any case information shown on GYL is derived from:

  1. Public judicial sources
  2. Client-submitted documents, or
  3. Lawyer-uploaded updates

GYL does not create or modify judicial records, nor does it publish official judgments. All displayed information reflects existing public records or voluntary submissions.

2. Sources of Case Information

Indian judicial data is publicly accessible under the doctrine of open justice. High Courts, District Courts, Tribunals, and the Supreme Court publish orders, cause lists, and case details on official portals.

Hence, if case details appear on GYL, they are either:

  1. Already available in the public domain, or
  2. Shared by clients/lawyers directly with GYL.

3. Legal Basis for Displaying or Referencing Case Information

(a) No Permission Required for Public Court Records

As per Section 52(1)(q)(iv) of the Copyright Act, publishing or referencing public judicial records is not a copyright infringement.

(b) Does It Violate Privacy?

Generally No. Public judicial records are ordinarily not protected from publication unless disclosure is restricted by applicable law or by a competent court.

(c) Right to Be Forgotten, Not Applicable to Judicial Records (as of now)

The Puttaswamy decision recognizes privacy as a fundamental right but maintains that judicial records remain public unless restricted by law or court orders. GYL follows this same legal framework.

4. What GYL Can Remove or Restrict

(a) Statutorily Protected Categories

  1. Sexual offence victims
  2. Minors / juveniles
  3. Protected identities under special laws

(b) Court-Mandated Removal

On submission of a valid judicial directive, GYL will immediately restrict relevant data.

(c) Incorrect or Unauthorized Data

If user-submitted data is incorrect or unauthorized, GYL will remove it after verification.

5. What GYL Cannot Remove

  1. Publicly available judicial orders
  2. Cause lists
  3. Case numbers on official portals
  4. Information required by law

GYL has no authority to delete, alter, or suppress public judicial records maintained by governmental authorities.

No Warranty of Public Records

GYL reproduces or references public judicial information as received from official sources. While reasonable efforts are made to maintain accuracy, GYL does not warrant that information published by third-party governmental authorities is complete, current, or error-free.

6. GYL’s Use of DigiLocker (Government Authorised)

GYL uses DigiLocker solely to verify the genuineness of the user accessing the platform. GYL does not store any document in or sourced from DigiLocker.

GYL has obtained government authorisation to use DigiLocker for the limited purpose of confirming the identity and genuineness of a user at the time of access. This is a one-time verification step and does not involve the ongoing collection, retention, or storage of documents.

(a) Purpose and No Storage

DigiLocker is used only to authenticate and verify the genuineness of the user. No document is stored by GYL in or through DigiLocker. GYL does not create a repository of DigiLocker documents and does not retain such documents in user case files.

(b) Documents We May Fetch

For verification purposes, GYL may fetch your PAN or any other government-issued identity document. Such information is fetched only with your explicit consent and is used strictly to confirm your identity, in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

(c) Consent, Logs, and Security

No information is fetched from DigiLocker unless you approve the request using secure API authentication. GYL maintains logs and timestamps recording which user requested what and when, for security, audit, and compliance purposes. All such access is encrypted and limited to the verification purpose described above.

7. Requesting Redaction or Removal From GYL

Email: connect@getyourlawyers.com with:

  1. Case number
  2. Reason for request
  3. Any supporting documents
  4. Court order (if applicable)

Timeline: 3–14 days depending on the type of request.

Deletion on Account Closure

When you delete or close your GYL account, we will delete all Personal Information and case data within our possession or control, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). The only information we may retain is that which we are required to keep by law or to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim, along with routine secured backups that are overwritten in the ordinary course. Publicly available judicial records are not created, owned, or controlled by GYL and therefore cannot be deleted by us.

8. Search Engine Visibility

GYL does not index personal pages publicly. If any informational URLs exist externally, GYL can request de-indexing for:

  1. Matrimonial disputes
  2. Custody / adoption
  3. Court-ordered private matters

9. Disclaimer & Compliance

  1. GYL is a legal-tech facilitator, not a judicial record publisher.
  2. All information displayed is either publicly available, user-provided, or lawfully retrieved.
  3. DigiLocker integration follows MeitY standards, API guidelines, and data-minimization principles.
  4. GYL operates strictly within the boundaries of Indian law.
